Ayanna Young is a communications strategist rooted in journalism. She is passionate about using storytelling to educate, connect communities and drive change. She currently serves as Communications Director for a Member of Congress, where she leads messaging and media strategy, writes press releases, statements, speeches, social media content, and website updates, coordinates press events, and works closely with local, state, and national reporters to elevate the Member's priorities.

 

Prior to Capitol Hill, Ayanna served as Deputy Communications Director for the Florida Democratic Party and as a Media Relations Specialist for a higher education institution. She began her career as a Reporter and Associate Producer at The Florida Channel, covering the Florida Legislature and the state's bill-to-law process. Her reporting also included Hurricane Michael recovery efforts in the Florida Panhandle and the community response following the Pulse nightclub tragedy. In addition to reporting, she produced the network's daily and weekly news programs.

 

A proud native of Palm Beach County, Florida, Ayanna earned a master's degree in Integrated Marketing Communication and a certificate in Multicultural Marketing from Florida State University. She received her bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, with a minor in Public Administration, from Florida A&M University. While at Florida A&M, Ayanna anchored and reported for News 20 at Five, a student-produced newscast that reached more than 80,000 viewers across the Tallahassee area. She also reported for WANM 90.5 The Flava Station, where she strengthened the storytelling and reporting skills that continue to shape her career.

 

Ayanna's passion for storytelling began at the age of five, when her love of the arts led to her acceptance into Palm Beach County's arts magnet programs. Since then, she has built a career dedicated to translating complex issues into compelling stories that resonate with diverse audiences.

 

Outside of work, Ayanna enjoys traveling, discovering new restaurants, reading novels, shopping, and spending time with her sweet dog, Sugar.
